A GUIDE TO CHOOSING WAREHOUSE & SHIPPING SUPPORT MATERIALS : FROM EXPORT PALLETS TO RACKING SYSTEMS

The successful distribution of manufactured products is determined not only by the quality of the finished goods, but also by how strong the support materials are in protecting them from the warehouse right into the hands of the customers.

Many factories suffer losses due to products being damaged in transit simply because they chose the wrong type of pallet or cardboard thickness. Through this article, Global Industry Group summarizes a guide to choosing the right logistics materials for your factory.

1. Don’t Choose the Wrong Pallet: Export vs. Local Pallets are the main foundation of goods movement.

  • For Export Shipping You must use ISPM 15 standardized Wooden Pallets. These pallets have gone through a Heat Treatment process to ensure no wood pests are carried along. Without the ISPM 15 stamp, your products risk being detained by Customs in the destination country.

  • For Sterile Rooms / Pharmaceuticals Leave wood behind and switch to Hygiene Plastic Pallets (Flat Deck) which are bacteria-free and easy to wash.

  • For Local Shipping Local Wooden Pallets (non-treatment) or Low-Grade Plastic Pallets are adequate enough and far more economical.

2. Cardboard (Corrugated Box) Thickness Determines Safety Do not be tempted by cheap cardboard if your products are heavy.

  • Use Single Wall (3-Ply) only for light products such as snacks, instant noodles, or garments.

  • Use Double Wall (5-Ply) to withstand heavy loads or high stacking in the warehouse, such as cooking oil, bottled beverages, and machine spare parts.

3. Space Optimization with Heavy Duty Racking If your warehouse is getting full, the solution is not always to rent a new warehouse, but rather to build upwards (vertically). The use of Selective Pallet Racking allows your Forklift to place goods up to 3-4 levels high, which can multiply your warehouse storage capacity without having to increase the building area.

4. The Right Expedition Fleet For large-capacity inter-city shipping, Wingbox (Tronton) fleets are an industry favorite. With doors that can fully open on both sides (left and right), the loading and unloading process using a Forklift becomes 2x faster compared to regular closed box trucks.
